Poochinies & Lattes #1

In Germany, poochies, big and small, are allowed to go into pretty much any building. I love dogs so it brightens my day every time I see one inside! I'm going to dedicate the occasional post to all the lovely little poochinies I've spotted in various cafes around Europe. Enjoy.

Waffle farewell from Schonhagen

To send us off on our merry way to Berlin, my grandma made us a feast of home-made German waffles. We doubled the recipe with the initial intent of leftovers...this never happened.

Sweeeeeden

Sweden was magical. Our three days included eating delicious food and exploring the countryside. On our walk through Kristianstad we came across what seemed to be a chicken and duck bird sanctuary, no idea why they didn't just jump the fence. That was pretty fun watching all the birdies hanging out together. We also spent some time in Simrishamn, a little town by the harbour. I referred to it as Shimmy Sham to a local, after he asked me where we had visited and he had no idea what the heck i was on about. Oh, and yes, we went to IKEA! They sold IKEA branded fire hydrants, suitcases and clothing too. I was really sad to leave, I definitely want to come back to explore Stockholm and also to restock on the most comfortable handmade Swedish sheepskin slippers ever!

Let the adventure begin!

Our eight week getaway has officially begun! I have been in Germany for over a week now and two days ago Graham joined in on the adventure when we picked him up from Hamburg train station. We've been eating cheese and salami on a daily basis and have forgotten what it feels like to be hungry. Tomorrow we are hiring a little VW Golf and driving up north to Sweden together. I've been begging to go see the Ikea Head Quarters but i'm not sure if we will drive as far as Stockholm. Just incase we don't, i've made meatballs tonight so we can take them on our trip as a snack, they wont be official Swedish meatballs but it will be close enough for me! See you soon and wish us safe driving...its been snowing non stop since last night. Go Graham! (glad i never did get my international drivers license after all...)

Almost all settled in

We’re almost all settled in to our new place, so here are a few more photos as promised earlier. The star and moon skylight is nestled into the ceiling of my studio and the teapot etching is in the door leading to our bedroom. And the bullet hole you ask? I did some serious investigating. This included attaching string to the point of entry (I know, smart right!) and sure enough I was led to the point of impact; a shallow tunnel burrowed into a cracked tile in the laundry. And speaking of the laundry, the tiles are identical to the ones on the outside of the General Havlock on Hutt Street…interesting right!? I seem to think so anyway…

Goodbye Blacky

This month, Graham and I are saying goodbye to our first ever little home together. At the end of last year we had discussions of moving away, our trip to Sydney left us wanting more from Adelaide (Sorry Adelaide!!). After actually looking into this though, living anywhere near the city center was kind of a little out of our price range...so when an apartment popped up on Pultney street for the same rent as our current place, our lofty plans of moving to another city vanished. Adelaide, you are amazing!!!

We got the apartment and I am in love! Built in the late 30's, it is rich with history. The walls in the living room are a gorgeous forest green, there is built in seating around the window bays, secret storage nooks all over the place, an internal window, art nouveau glass etchings, curved walls, a big green mantle piece, a laundry that looks like it belongs in a pub, a massive bedroom and a potential bullet hole in one of the doors (i'll be investigating this one). Here are a few photos for now, when we're all settled in i'll share some more.
