Easter in Schonhagen

Graham and I just couldn't pass up a traditional German Easter breakfast, so after our week in Prague, we caught a train back up north to the lovely little sleepy town of Schonhagen where my Grandparents live.

German breakfasts are known for being pretty frickin amazing as is, but Easter breakfast is really something else. When else do you get the chance to eat all your favourite things in the one sitting, what a great way to start the day I say!

After breakfast, Graham and I gave into a craving we have had for a few too many weeks now by making sausage rolls. Don't judge us, you try going away for 5 weeks and not eat a sausage roll in that time! We ended the day by going to a community bonfire, we drank hot apple wine with rum and ate bratwurst. Graham was quite the involved citizen by declaring himself chief fire stoker for the evening.

Poochinies & Lattes #3

Unfortunately, the waiter messed up the order. No one likes a cranky poochinie!

Goodbye Berlin

We knew we would love you.

A few little snappy snaps from around our end of town. The window leading up to our little apartment, a small market we stumbled upon whilst exploring the local residential area, striking colours against a white sky, and the view from our bedroom window.

Poochinies & Lattes #1

In Germany, poochies, big and small, are allowed to go into pretty much any building. I love dogs so it brightens my day every time I see one inside! I'm going to dedicate the occasional post to all the lovely little poochinies I've spotted in various cafes around Europe. Enjoy.

Waffle farewell from Schonhagen

To send us off on our merry way to Berlin, my grandma made us a feast of home-made German waffles. We doubled the recipe with the initial intent of leftovers...this never happened.

Sweeeeeden

Sweden was magical. Our three days included eating delicious food and exploring the countryside. On our walk through Kristianstad we came across what seemed to be a chicken and duck bird sanctuary, no idea why they didn't just jump the fence. That was pretty fun watching all the birdies hanging out together. We also spent some time in Simrishamn, a little town by the harbour. I referred to it as Shimmy Sham to a local, after he asked me where we had visited and he had no idea what the heck i was on about. Oh, and yes, we went to IKEA! They sold IKEA branded fire hydrants, suitcases and clothing too. I was really sad to leave, I definitely want to come back to explore Stockholm and also to restock on the most comfortable handmade Swedish sheepskin slippers ever!

Let the adventure begin!

Our eight week getaway has officially begun! I have been in Germany for over a week now and two days ago Graham joined in on the adventure when we picked him up from Hamburg train station. We've been eating cheese and salami on a daily basis and have forgotten what it feels like to be hungry. Tomorrow we are hiring a little VW Golf and driving up north to Sweden together. I've been begging to go see the Ikea Head Quarters but i'm not sure if we will drive as far as Stockholm. Just incase we don't, i've made meatballs tonight so we can take them on our trip as a snack, they wont be official Swedish meatballs but it will be close enough for me! See you soon and wish us safe driving...its been snowing non stop since last night. Go Graham! (glad i never did get my international drivers license after all...)
